Autumn Sun

Call me crazy, but I started another project yesterday. It all started from Rhonna Farrer's creativity exercises. The boost I pulled Monday was about buying something to get your spark re-lite. I've been looking at Liz Kartchner's blog, and recently been SO in awe of her photography. So, I bought a new memory card to be used only for self portraits; to practice my photo skills on a willing subject! I didn't make it to Walmart Monday night, so I bought the card yesterday, and began snapping away.

When I plugged the memory card into the computer I wasn't thrilled with what I saw, but I knew there was potential. I started deleting a lot of bad photos, and was left with about 20 half-decent pictures. Today when I pulled out my boost, lo and behold, it was to take a self portrait creatively. All day today I was looking at the sunlight; it seems there's lots of sun flaires in Liz's photos, and I wanted to capture that for myself.

Right when I got home tonight, I set up the tripoid in the backyard (which faces west), and tried my best to have the sun behind me, but not have me be a silhoutte. I must have taken at least a hundred pictures out there, in different spots in the yard, trying my best. I plugged the memory card into the computer, and immediately started deleting one's that just didn't work. Remarkably I was left with about 35 photos that were what I had expected. I set to work picking the best from that group; I am have a bit of OCD in me, and want the same number of photos from each day, so I chose a number: thirteen.

Project 13 was born! This number has a lot of meaning to me: both of my parents are born on the 13th (my mum is April and my dad is June); the were married on the 13th of February; my Grandpa was originally terrified of Friday the 13th, but married Yvonne on exactly that day in March (my mum asked if he did indeed know what the date was, and he turned over a new leaf!); and in a list of wedding songs, our song - George Strait's "I Cross My Heart" was number 13th (that's why I finally caved into Justin's desires for that song!).

Now, I don't intend to do this everyday, but I want to make an honest effort, and try my hardest for photos that make me proud. The following are photos 6-12 from today.

The sun flaired beautifully for me - and I'm really proud of these photos - the first three especially.
